Yahoo Local – New Design

August 15, 2007 § 1 Comment

The new Yahoo Local makes me wanna be a better local. Some quick thoughts for local libraries:

1. Learn from the re-design and incorporate relevant features into their own community pages. Sites like these are pretty commerce-focused, but they don’t have to be… take what you like and apply them to your community pages.

2. Become an active participant on the site. This is a social network, a local social network — participate!

3. Use sites like these to promote the library, this means thinking like a business, the dreaded b word… Modify the library’s listing in Yahoo’s local directory — add some images, highlights, relevant web pages.

4. Use Yahoo Local as a tool for finding local information… when creating your own local pages, at the reference desk, etc.
